Free Maple Tree Mini Lesson for Homeschoolers
Fall is one of my favorite times of the year to bring our homeschool outdoors! Here in Maine, our landscape feels like it changes almost daily. As the leaves begin to turn, a sense of urgency sets in as we prepare for the long winter months. Identifying our maple trees is something we need to do on the farm to prepare enough supplies for maple sugaring season, but it makes a wonderful nature study for kids!
Maple Unit Study Coming This Winter
This mini lesson is a sneak peek at a much larger Maple Tree Unit Study I'm putting the finishing touches on to release this winter. We are over a decade into maple sugaring, and even if you will never tap a maple tree, it's wonderful for your children to know where their food comes from! Who doesn't love warm maple syrup over fluffy pancakes, waffles, or vanilla ice cream?!
The full study will go much deeper into maple trees and maple sugaring, including the science behind what each season contributes to the process, vocabulary, geography, the maple sugaring steps, and more! It will be a great opportunity for children to explore the science behind this fascinating seasonal process.
I'm planning to release the full Maple Tree Unit Study this winter, just in time for maple sugaring season. 🍁 So if your family enjoys nature-based homeschooling, keep an eye out — there's much more maple learning to come!
